The challenge
A professional body in Australia offered two professional certifications for IT professionals within Australia, of which were regarded highly by the Australian government. However, they wanted to expand their reach and improve immigration pathways for IT professionals moving to/from Australia.
The UK body had international presence but not in terms of their professional registrations. This was a new venture for them, one I was happy to facilitate for them.
My intervention
The best approach was to adapt the industry accreditation offering I’d designed to suit the establishment of a mutual recognition agreement. I worked with the Australian body to map across the UK body's chartered registration to one of their certifications to clarify where the overlaps and gaps were in the criteria and the assessment processes. Where gaps were identified we worked together to see how we could overcome this through changes to existing processes or a risk of the incompatibility and whether a trade-off could be established.
The outcome
After months of negotiation, between myself and contacts within the Australian body, we settled on a mutual agreement that would enable individuals holding either their certification or the UK chartership to achieve the opposite without the need for further assessment. This would enable a direct translation of skill and competency for those immigrating to either the UK or Australia, strengthening their application.
